Our commitment to accessibility
Cleft is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards to provide equal access and opportunity to all users, on the web and in our apps alike.
- We build to WCAG 2.1 AA across both our website and the Cleft apps.
- The website is keyboard-navigable, screen-reader friendly, and works without JavaScript.
- The apps are designed for VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, and the system accessibility settings on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
- Hit a barrier? Email accessibility@cleftnotes.com and we respond within 24 hours.
EU Accessibility Act: the Act became fully enforceable on June 28, 2025 and applies to our digital services. We meet it through WCAG 2.1 AA on the web today and design the Cleft apps to the same bar (see each surface below).
Accessibility by surface
Accessibility looks different on a website than in a native app, so we report each separately rather than blur them together. Choose a surface:

Status: the Cleft apps are built to the commitments below, which we verify each release. An independent assessment is part of our pre-launch checklist for each platform. This section describes how we design for accessibility, not a completed third-party certification.
Built on Apple’s accessibility framework
Cleft is a native app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, so its accessibility runs on the system features people already use, not a separate add-on. We design every screen to work with the assistive technologies built into Apple’s platforms and to honour the accessibility settings you have already chosen.
Accessibility features
- VoiceOver: controls carry meaningful labels, traits, and a sensible focus order so the screen reader can describe the app.
- Dynamic Type: text scales with your system text-size setting, including the larger accessibility sizes, without clipping.
- Switch Control and Voice Control: the interface is operable without touch.
- Reduce Motion: animations are reduced or removed when you ask the system to minimise motion.
- Contrast and color: sufficient contrast, support for Increase Contrast / Reduce Transparency, and no meaning conveyed by color alone.
- Captions and transcripts: provided for any in-app media.
Supported assistive technologies
- VoiceOver (iOS, iPadOS, macOS)
- Switch Control
- Voice Control
- Dynamic Type and larger accessibility text sizes
- Increase Contrast, Reduce Transparency, Reduce Motion
How we test the apps
- Xcode’s Accessibility Inspector and its audit checks
- Manual VoiceOver passes on a real device
- Dynamic Type checked at the largest accessibility sizes
- Switch Control and Voice Control walkthroughs of core flows

Continuous improvement
We treat accessibility as part of building, not an afterthought. We check accessibility as part of every release, fold in feedback from people who use assistive technology, and aim for an independent assessment ahead of each app’s public launch. Our team receives accessibility training and keeps current with best practice.
